Our thoughts and prayers go out to the fire victims and their families of the California Wildfires.
THANK YOU FIRST RESPONDERS
It’s been a heartbreaking and tragic month for Northern & Southern California fire victims, their families, animals and friends. The devastating wildfires in California have taken many lives and homes this holiday season. We want to send thoughts and prayers to the families and friends who have lost so much. There are no words to describe how devastating this fire has been. These recent fires were the worst in California History.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the brave first responders who fought to protect the fire victims, their animals and their homes. We honor you and thank you for your service.
The 2018 wildfire season is the most destructive wildfire season on record in California, with a total of 7,579 fires burning an area of 1,667,855 acres (674,957 ha), the largest amount of burned acreage recorded in a fire season, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) and the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), as of November 11. The fires have caused more than $2.975 billion (2018 USD) in damages, including $1.366 billion in fire suppression costs.

A SAD HOLIDAY FOR SO MANY.
Acreage and containment: As of Thursday morning, Cal Fire said the fire had consumed 153,336 acres and was 95 percent contained.
Casualties: Officials have now confirmed that 84 people have died in the fire. As of Tuesday night, 56 had been tentatively identified pending DNA confirmation. The Camp Fire is the deadliest wildfire in modern California history, surpassing the death toll from the 1933 Griffith Park Fire, according to Cal Fire statistics.
Damage update: Cal Fire currently estimates the fire has destroyed 18,652 structures, including 13,631 single residences, primarily in and around Paradise, a town of 27,000 in the foothills east of Chico. That makes the Camp Fire the most destructive fire in terms of structures destroyed in recorded state history, surpassing last year’s Tubbs Fire, which destroyed 5,636 structures and killed 22 people.

EVERYDAY HEROES
Stories of horrific damage from the recent and ongoing fires have emerged, but thankfully there are also stories of courageous individuals stepping up to help. One such person is Allyn Pierce, a nurse whose truck melted after he drove back into the fire to help patients.
According to a Twitter thread from New York Times reporter Jack Nicas, Pierce manages the ICU at Adventist Health in Paradise, a Northern California town that has been largely destroyed by the massive Camp Fire. As the fire headed toward the hospital, Pierce and two colleagues tried to evacuate, but they ended up stuck in the middle of the flames. Pierce even recorded a farewell message to his family as he watched the cars around him catch fire. Miraculously, Pierce escaped…but he then decided to turn back to help others.
