1TAC Flashlights, Headlamps,  1HYDRO Filtration Water Bottles and other much needed gear was hand delivered to the Relief Efforts in Houston right after the storm.

When Hurricane Harvey hit and the city of Houston was devastated Rick Bennink the CEO and founder of 1TAC Tactical Outfitters knew he had to do something.

1TAC RESPONSE TEAM IN ACTION

Within a week he activated the 1TAC Response team and put together a plan to fly $100,000 worth of 1TAC emergency survival gear into the city of Austin as there were no flights available directly into Houston. Rick and the 1TAC Response Team was determined to get boots on the ground and make there way down to Houston one way or another to help deliver the items to the people who needed it most.

It was not easy.

The disaster was so wide spread that the state was overwhelmed and to busy dealing with the tasks at hand. There just wasn’t enough help or resources to distribute our much needed 1TAC gear. So Rick and his team partnered with 2 time NFL Super Bowl Champion Billy Davis from the Dallas Cowboys to help and take matters into their own hands.

Billy Davis is an ambassador for the State of Texas, a local hero and also works with the Department of Agriculture and helped us connect with Sid Miller the Commissioner and Walt Roberts the Assistant Commissioner who ultimately helped us get the shipments into the state and through to their warehouses and onto our trucks.

After trying and not succeeding to connect with the various local and state authorities and relief groups we realized we were going to have to take things into our own hands and head down from Austin into Houston and get the truck load of 1TAC gear into the hands of the victims and first responders ourselves.

A LUCKY BREAK

Austin Disaster Relief Network

The AUSTIN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK

We just happened to see a news broadcast on a TV in a local lunch place and read on the screen that the Austin Disaster Relief Network was looking for donations and especially needed flashlight and batteries. Most of the Houston area was out of power and would be for weeks if not months. This was our chance. We called them and set up a meeting right away. They were an amazing group of people and had a network of first responders and volunteers across hundreds of churches in the Houston area doing victim reach out and rescue. We knew with their assistance much of our survival gear would get into the right hands. We donated more than $50,000 worth of 1TAC Emergency Gear to them for their efforts.

The Road to Houston

Since we couldn’t get a hold of any local authorities to help. We decided to head to Houston on our own. It took us half a day to navigate the bumper to bumper traffic heading into the Houston area. Along the way we met many people and were able to get them much needed survival gear right in their hands. This couldn’t have been more fulfilling. Looking people in the eye, shaking their hands, hearing their stories and offering them 1TAC survival gear that would hopefully make their recovery a little easier.

ANOTHER LUCKY BREAK

Our team happened to stop at a local Starbucks a few hours outside of Houston. This Starbucks just happened to be where Howard Schultz the owner of Starbucks and his PR team were giving a media press announcement to reporters and news cameras. And at the same time standing in the group was the president of TEAM RUBICON Jake Wood. Team Rubicon is one of the largest disaster relief organization in the country who was there helping in the area and just the person we were hoping to meet. It was a chance meeting with all the right people at the right time to get done what we had set out to do. We met Jake, told him about our mission and he went in to action right away. He got us in contact with their headquarters mission control in Houston and opened all the doors for us to get our gear into their hands.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

MEETING TEAM RUBICON

Once in the city limits of Houston we were pointed in the direction of a large warehouse which was ground zero for the TEAM RUBICON and COMBINED ARMS disaster Relief operation. Once there we were greeted with open arms by the entire team. They treated us like family.

THEY TREATED US LIKE FAMILY.

Because the disaster relief teams and local and state authorities were so spread out and over worked in the area we really needed Team Rubicon and Combined Arms to do the heavy lifting and get our gear into the field and into the right hands. We knew we were in good hands. We were honored to be working alongside these amazing organizations and were able to help in their efforts.

WE WERE HONORED TO HELP

Our support seemed to come in just at the right time as all their teams were in need of our emergency survival gear. The entire state of Texas came together to help in these efforts and we were very proud to be a part of the emergency relief efforts and help bring support to people whose lives have been turned upside-down by this disaster..

TEAMWORK

We were impressed with the size of the relief operation and level of teamwork that Team Rubicon and Combined Arms and all their partners brought to the Houston disaster relief efforts. Everyone was very appreciative of the 1TAC Response Team’s contribution. Their teams worked together hand in hand with our 1TAC teams to achieve our mission of bringing 1TAC Flashlights and Headlamps to the people who needed them most.

COORDINATING DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS IS A HUGE UNDERTAKING

1TAC Response Team understands how difficult it is to bring aid to the people who need it most during hard times. When we got to Houston after Hurricane Harvey and saw how Texas pulled together as a state and community to help those in need. Disasters like these create more needs than any one organization can meet on their own. 1TAC Response Team is working very closely with many organizations including the Red Cross and the entire response community – government agencies, other non-profit groups, faith-based organizations, area businesses and others – to coordinate help with gear for these relief efforts.
