Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of this sad and horrific Mass Shooting
disaster.
MASS SHOOTING A MILE FROM OUR 1TAC OFFICES
HITS TOO CLOSE TO HOME
Sadly, we all woke up this morning to the news of this tragic mass shooting at the Borderline Grill in Thousand Oaks CA. This restaurant is a few minutes from the 1TAC offices. One of the partners at 1TAC is good friends of the owner of the bar as well. This happened in our backyard and it has really hit home with us here at 1TAC. All these tragedies are horrible but having one happen so close to home really puts things into perspective. Everyone at 1TAC is sending thoughts and prayers to all the victims and their families. It saddens us to here this news. Our doors are always open to help if anyone is in need during this crisis.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the brave police officer who gave his life protecting the people he served and to his family, friends and fellow officers. We honor you and thank you for your service.
Among the dead was Ron Helus, a veteran sergeant in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office who was mortally wounded when he responded to the incident just minutes after 911 calls began flooding in, authorities said.
Helus and a Highway Patrol Officer headed into the club and exchanged fire with the attacker, Dean said. Helus, a 29-year veteran of the force with a grown son, had been on the phone with his wife when he got the call about the shooting and headed to the club, Dean said. During the shootout, he was struck several times.
“He died a hero,” Dean said, his voice cracking, “because he went in to save lives.”

ANOTHER SAD DAY FOR VETERANS
Authorities said the gunman — identified as Ian David Long, a 28-year-old Marine veteran who earlier this year was cleared by a mental-health specialist after an encounter with police — was found dead inside after apparently killing himself. Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said Thursday morning that investigators have not been able to determine a motive.

Veterans are not receiving the care that they deserve
According to the RAND Center for Military Health Policy Research 20 percent of the vets who served in either Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from either major depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. 19.5 percent of vets in these two categories have experienced a traumatic brain injury. These three service-related disorders alone have an enormous impact on the demand for veteran mental health treatment.
Veteran mental health services are essential in order to help our returning vets recover from their combat experiences and mental health issues related to their military service. There are a number of troubling statistics which show that enough is not being done and that many of our veterans are not receiving the care that they deserve in this area.

ANTIDEPRESSANTS ARE A PRESCRIPTION FOR MASS SHOOTINGS
Before the late nineteen eighties, mass shootings and acts of senseless violence were relatively unheard of. Prozac, the most well known SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antidepressant, was not yet on the market. When Prozac did arrive, it was marketed as a panacea for depression which resulted in huge profits for its manufacturer Eli Lilly. Of course other drug companies had to create their own cash cow and followed suit by marketing their own SSRI antidepressants.
Subsequently, mass shootings and other violent incidents started to be reported. More often than not, the common denominator was that the shooters were on an antidepressant, or withdrawing from one. This is not about an isolated incident or two but numerous shootings. The question is, during the past twenty years is the use of antidepressants here a coincidence or a causation?
